Did you know that Armadillos have teeth and claws? While they are usually a very peaceful little critter (Member of the mammalian family) if they are cornered, if they are provoked, if they feel you might be a danger to their babies or if you try to capture them you can be putting yourself in danger. To add to the danger you should be aware that Armadillos do carry rabies and are carriers of the disease “leprosy”. A single scratch could mean a trip the hospital for rabies shots (not fun) and other vaccinations and treatments. So while they are cute (in the eyes of their mother maybe) I would recommend leaving the removal of Armadillos to the experts.
You might think that armadillos are just another rodent, related to rats and raccoons etc. But did you know they are really related to anteaters and sloths? For some reason, one of my daughters is phobic of sloths and they freak her out. Just another reason you should just leave these guys to the professionals so everyone can get some sleep tonight.
Have you noticed something running around or holes in your backyard but you can’t figure out what it is? Armadillos are very common in the south and tend to pop up where we least expect them to. They are very hard to trap but we have found ways to do it. You may be thinking, why should I worry about them or they haven’t done too much damage yet or they haven’t bothered my pets yet. Well the main word is, yet. Also, did you know there is a list of diseases armadillos carry but one example is leprosy? Yes, leprosy.
Armadillos are foragers and they dig constantly throughout the yard; making them quite a nuisance. In order to catch them, we have to channel them. They are not like a typical animal that we find outside of our homes. Armadillos do not run to bait; therefore, you definitely need a professional who has experience with trapping one of these. There is a lot of back and forth with this system. Once we trap the armadillo, we relocate it safely. If you spot an armadillo in your yard, know how tricky they may be and give us a call right away.
